It's a long way from St Louis and a war-time link, but a Haywards Heath firm now features in the latest success story of a USA company that discovered that some people liked to rent cars rather than buy them.
Dinnages in Wivelsfield Road, Haywards Heath, has a pretty long history of sales and service to drivers, having sold, maintained, and repaired vehicles for people since entrepreneur Jim Dinnage started it as a motorcycle shop in 1935.
In its early days it supplied the local police force with motorcycles, before expanding into cars.
International firm Enterprise Rent-A-car has chosen Dinnages for its latest rental outlet because it considers it a prime site, on the approach road into Haywards Heath.
Area manager Matthew Strutt is delighted that the firm has put its faith in both Dinnages and Haywards Heath by launching its newest centre at the site.
Matthew said: "As a company Enterprise is always looking at ways to improve its service and that is why we felt it benefited our customers to open our Haywards Heath branch.
"The new branch is situated at Dinnages Ford on Wivelsfield Road and we are confident of offering a much more efficient service from what we feel is a prime location in the area."
The Dinnages outlet of Enterprise is the latest of about 6,900 locations worldwide, a fleet of more than 879,000 vehicles and an extended family of more than 64,500 employees, with about 3,400 in the UK.
