Teenager’s photograph wins him a top award

A TALENTED young photographer has won the coveted Derek Davis Prize for the most impressive artist, chosen by the public during the 23rd year of one a leading open artists’ event, the Arundel Gallery Trail.

Theo Ormrod Davis (15), who lives near Chichester, won the 2011 award with his photograph of a dandelion seed head, entitled ‘Glowing dandelion’, displayed in his first exhibition.

Theo, who is currently studying for his GCSE’s, said: “Ever since I can remember, I have been particularly interested in nature and wildlife, and have often recorded what I see with my camera. My family gave me a Lumix DMC-FZ38 for my last birthday, and since then my photography has really started to develop, leading to my exhibition at the 2011 Arundel Gallery Trail.

“I like to photograph less obvious aspects of nature, such as detailed studies of lacewings, dewdrops, frost patterns, or less obviously spectacular creatures such as starlings. Although spring is my favourite time for taking photographs, I am looking forward to the new subjects that autumn will bring. Getting up early has led to some of my favourite photographs.”

Theo would eventually like to get involved in conservation work in some way, and to bring to people’s attention the overlooked aspects of nature before they are lost forever.
