Forty members of inChoir, the choir for people who love to sing, have just returned from five days in Lapland.

The members, drawn from inChoir branches in Burgess Hill, Crawley, Crowborough, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath, were led by their musical director Mark Heppell and vocal coach Karen O’Connor.

Spokeswoman Sally Lockhart said: “As well as singing, inChoir members enjoyed snow-mobiling on frozen lakes, a husky safari through a picturesque winter wonderland, a visit to a reindeer farm and several evening excursions looking for the Northern Lights in temperatures well below freezing.

“The trip culminated in a fabulous evening concert in the brand-new state-of-the-art Sajos Theatre, the indigenous Sami people’s cultural and political centre, in Inari, northern Finland. Sharing the stage with inChoir were two local choirs – Saamekuoro and Inarin Sekakuoro. Each choir sang from its own repertoire and then all three came together to sing first in English and then in the Sami language for a rousing finale and a standing ovation from the packed theatre.

“The trip is the second international concert given by inChoir; in August they sang in Morzine in the French Alps with a French choir which is making a return visit to Sussex later in the year. inChoir was also invited to sing in Bath’s Christmas market at the end of last year and will be performing on the stage of the world-famous Minack Theatre in May this year.”

Sally added: “inChoir meets weekly in six locations across Sussex and Kent and is for anyone and everyone who enjoys singing. To find the nearest inChoir to you, visit the website www.inchoir.co.uk or call 01342 327711.”
