Buzzcocks’ Phill tops the bill

Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ Phill Jupitus tops the bill at the third Big Cheer for Amaze at Brighton Theatre Royal on Thursday, February 7 from 7.45-10pm (0844 871 7650).

Spokeswoman Nicky Bagilhole said: “It’s our annual charity stand-up comedy event in association with Baby Cow Productions Ltd, from which we hope to raise lots of funds to help the parents of children with special needs. Find us here on www.amazebrighton.org.uk; we’re a small local charity who love to laugh!

“The multi-talented Phill Jupitus is our headline act and he’ll be joined byJohn Moloney, (Best Live Stand-up at the British Comedy Awards), Angela Barnes (Radio 2 New Comedy Award winner) and Raymond and Mr Timkins, all bossed about a bit by compere Ray Peacock, nominated in 2012 for Chortle’s Best Compere award.”

Author, TV presenter and patron of Amaze, Annabel Giles, said, “I have found Amaze invaluable over the years. It is easy to forget that parents of children with special needs and disabilities also need support. That is why I am involved in the Big Cheer. After all it is better to laugh than cry!”

Nicky added: “Amaze is a one-stop shop offering independent information, advice and support to parents on matters affecting the well-being of their children with special needs and disabilities. Our organisation is parent led and works with parents and carers of children with any special need or disability aged 0-19 years in Brighton and Hove.

“Amaze’s mission is to inform, support and empower parents of children with disabilities and special needs. We want parents’ voices to be heard and to build their confidence and resilience so they can support their children to lead happy and integrated lives, fulfilling their potential.

“We aim to empower parents by supporting them through the emotional and practical demands of getting the right services, finance, leisure and health care. Amaze believes that the views of parents and carers would be central to the decision making about their child’s care. We work to encourage good communication and partnership between parents and carers and service providers for the benefit of the whole family.”
