Have your say

It’s hard to tell from the picture but one of these children is holding a piglet.

The group was taking part in a Christmas fancy dress competition in 1964 and young David Northcote decided to go as Tom the Piper’s Son.

When you’re dressed as Tom, you do of course need a pig. David and his porker pal promptly stole the show when they ambled into the Horsted Keynes Lawn Tennis Club.

There was no surprise when David an his pig took first place in the boys’ contest. Second place went to cousins Alan and Peter Walder, as Sporting Boys. Third place went to JW Earle, as Charlie Chaplin.

In the girls’ section, Marion Gurr dressed as a poodle and won first prize, Lynn Wood – the Spanish Lady – was second, and Louise Potter, who dressed as a Cracker, was third.

1964 was a good year for the Ardingly College Boy Scout Group – they saw the first of their number earn the Queen’s Scout award.

His name was Peter Catley, he was a member of Rhodes House and a Troop Leader to boot. He is in our second picture receiving his award from County Commissioner Lieut-Colonel RC Giles.

As well as receiving his award, Peter was presented with a Bible by District Commissioner BGW Gough.

Can you name the class of 1928?

Sometimes it’s hard to judge the age of a photo, and the age of our third one was something of a surprise.

A quick glance at this class of girls in their summer dresses and you would be forgiven for thinking it was taken in the 1950s or 1960s.

It was actually taken at Lindfield School in 1928.

The girls look to be around 10 years old so it’s highly likely not many of them are still with us – but can anyone name them?

Can anyone spot their mother, grandmother or great-grandmother in the picture?

We have a few of the names. The teacher was Miss Anscombe and some of the girls were: (back row) M Penny, P Ritchie, D Nye, G Jardine, V Miller, J Lacey, unknown, J Campion. Front row: unknown, J Steadman, G Biscoe, unknown, J Linford, M Morgan, N Lindfield, J Turner, D Turner.
