Have your say

Last weekend was all about St George’s Day, with dragons and knights marching – and dancing –through Crawley and Horley in acknowledgement of our patron saint.

Keeping with the party atmosphere, these pictures were taken circa 1966 and 1980 and show floats from Crawley Carnival and people taking part in the May Day Parade.

The pictures come courtesy of West Sussex Past Pictures.

When the carnival was at its height, the floats were extremely creative.

In these pictures we have the Mad Hatters tea party,

Mary Poppins and her chimney sweeps, an Oriental scene and the Crawley & District Sea Anglers.

The group gathered round the Dalek were taking part in the 1988 carnival, raising money for Cot Death Research.

They must have raised a few smiles as well as a few pounds!

Do you recognise anyone in these pictures? Did you ever take part in the carnival parade?
