These mid-last century pictures are probably of Worlds End Football Club players.

Provided by a resident of Junction Road, Burgess Hill, they show action from a match at the Janes Lane Recreation Ground, with a small crowd gathered behind the goal and on the slope that is still there today.

It is thought the pictures might date from the late 40s or 50s, but perhaps older residents connected with the club might throw more light on the matter, especially the identity of players in the team photograph.

Worlds End FC was a highly successful local team based at Janes Lane and later formed the basis, with Sussex County League Burgess Hill FC, who played at Fairfield Road, of the now Ryman League Burgess Hill Town Football Club. Senior officials of Worlds End, including Peter Strange, played a part in Burgess Hill Town’s affairs. His son Richard is chairman of Burgess Hill Town. Worlds End FC played for many years in the Mid Sussex League.
