ADUR police's second in command has officially taken over as chief inspector.
James Asser, who was inspector for 18 months at Shoreham police station, has now being promoted to the rank of chief inspector and has taken over command of the district.
His predecessor, Lawrence Hobbs, left in July.
Mr Asser, 35, joined Sussex Police in 1996 and has spent most of his career working in various roles in the West Downs division, with postings at Bognor, Chichester and Littlehampton, including a spell as critical incident inspector.
He also worked with the domestic violence unit in Crawley and in public protection.
Mr Asser, who is married with a son, said he wanted to work closely with the community and focus on neighbourhood policing.
