A PENSIONER had money stolen from her handbag in a spate of thefts in the town centre on Thursday (February 28).

EIGHTY-SIX-year-old Helen Rice had £45 taken from her bag along with a number of cash cards.

She noticed the money missing at around 12.30pm and contacted police.

Mrs Rice, of Gerald Court, said: "I always thought Horsham was free of unsavoury people, but obviously it's not.

"I am so cross and it left me without enough for the bus fare.

"I think it's very sad."

Horsham Police confirmed that two other handbag thefts had taken place between 11am and 4pm where money was taken from purses.

PC Keith Beckley said: "People should be aware that this has happened around the town and make sure they keep purses and handbags in sight at all times."
