CHANGES in legislation have given Sussex Police new powers.

The force can now use a section 27 notice - used to get people to leave certain areas if there is low level disorder, anti-social behaviour and risk of violence or damage involving alcohol - on people aged 10 and above.

Previously police could only use the notice with people aged 16 and above to leave certain areas for a period of 24 hours. This can be extended to a period of 48 hours with the authority of an inspector.
