More than 200 people enjoyed viewing the flower, fruit and vegetable exhibits, as well as the well-supported cookery, floral art, crafts, photography and children's classes and a fun section for the longest runner bean, biggest strawberry and other weird and wonderful specimens, including a bucket of home-made compost.

Cream teas sold out during the afternoon due to heavy demand, but the spreading apple tree in the grounds of Pigeon House provided a perfect setting to catch up with village news and stalls selling arts and craft items were kept busy, too.

The show was once again held in the centuries-old thatched barn at Pigeon House, and show secretary Anna Burtenshaw thanked the Blake family for allowing the use of their gardens and the barn for the event.

Anna added that rose and sweet pea classes had good entries in spite of the poor weather and the cookery judge said it had been "extremely difficult" to judge this year as there had been many more entries and a much higher standard. There was an encouraging number of new people taking part.
