THE donation of a new horsebox has been a significant boost to the Racehorse Sanctuary and Rehoming Centre in Stonehouse Lane, Cowfold, where Graham Oldfield and Sue Collins are doing an invaluable job in retraining and caring for retired racehorses.


They offer a safe haven for all thoroughbreds, whether fit or injured, young or old, or simply unable to race any longer, a safe haven to live out their retirement in peace.


The horsebox, wwhich carries two horses, has been donated by the Crown Prince of Bahrain, and is used in emergencies to transport sick horses to the equine hospital and also to transport equines to and from the centre .


In addition, it has canopies which enables it to be taken to shows with display stands,to publicise the work done by the centre and highlight the need for donations.


Explained Graham: "The donation came about in strange way. One of our patrons is Debbie Bonham, sister of the late John Bonham, who was drummer for Led Zeppelin. The Crown Prince is a fan of Led Zeppelin and asked for tickets at the recent reunion concert at O2 in London. In return he offered to make a donation to any charity. We were suggested and his assistant asked what we needed most. It has been a wonderful boost for us."
