A VERY special Sussex racehorse has produced a colt foal with outstanding racing prospects.
Material World, trained by Suzy Smith at Lewes racecourse, defied all odds by going on to win on the track despite having lost an eye before she ever started her racing career.

Her first offspring, an impressive colt foal, was born at midnight on June 22 and seems destined for a fine racing career.

Owned by Suzy's father, Robin, who lives in Chichester, Material World was retired from racing last year and later covered by triple European champion stayer and dual Ascot Gold Cup winner Kayf Tara, whose offspring are notching notable successes.

Material World, by Karinga Bay, lost her left eye following an accident on the gallops but her astute trainer decided to give her every chance on the track.

The mare, now 11, went on to reward Suzy's faith by earning £93,217 prize money in the racing career which followed.

For full story and to hear about a racing club for the foal, see Sussex Horse World, West Sussex Gazette June 17
