Proposal for Bognor Regis seafront unit is rejected
A SEAFRONT trader’s plan to change his premises has been rejected by councillors.
Alex Mills wanted to put orange-and-green-striped film wrap around his Shake’n’Bake concession on The Esplanade.
But Arun District Council’s development control committee refused planning permission without any debate.
The only comment at last Wednesday’s meeting came from Cllr Ricky Bower (Con, East Preston). He said: “I don’t like the stripes very much.”
Mr Mills was featured last August at an earlier stage in his planning dispute with the council.
He has run the business in the single-storey white metal catering unit since May 2010. But Daniel Vick, a council planning officer, said: “The proposed alterations to the kiosk are considered to be of a poor quality and lacking in details.
“The proposal is for cladding by way of a vinyl wrap/film which will be applied to four sides of the unit, consisting of alternating green and white and orange and white horizontal stripes, which is the colour of the existing logo.”
Arun is co-ordinating concession leases as far as possible to end in December 2014 to create a revitalised seafront the next summer.
