There are signs that the awful truth is dawning on people

MAURICE Webb talks of the surrender of our sovereignty to the EU (WSG Letters, October 31). However, the United Kingdom is a Constitutional Monarchy and under our Constitution we are governed by Her Majesty the Queen.

Henry de Bracton said more than 700 years ago ‘The King is under no man, but he is under God and the Law’.

Furthermore, the Act of Settlement of 1701 says ‘The laws of England are the birthright of the people’.

So the Queen governs in accordance with the Law and the Law belongs to us. Clearly the people are sovereign and only they can surrender that sovereignty.

There are signs that the awful truth of our betrayal is dawning upon the people. When the British lion awakes, he will shake off the shackles of the EU and, if we all do our bit, on June 15, 2015 we shall commemorate the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta as a free nation.
