Historic photo taken in 1973

The Capitol Theatre photograph on page 40 of the February 7 County times, which was inadvertently misdated 1983, was taken from the roof of Horsham Bedding Centre in 1973.

The buildings surrounding the theatre had by then been demolished and a temporary road constructed on the north side.

The day after the photograph was taken, developers for the Central Redevelopment Scheme took possession of the theatre’s forecourt, where Boots was soon to be built.

The Swan Walk Shopping Centre and multi-storey car park followed, after which the theatre spent the rest of its life completely hemmed in.
