The area's Samaritans service has been praised for its high standard of caller care in an official audit.
The Bognor Regis, Chichester and District branch was rated highly
during the audit carried out by a team of specially-trained visitors from other branches of the charity.

In their report inspectors highlighted how highly valued and cared for vol
unteers were and noted the directorate worked well together, the committee was enthusiastic and highly competent and there was
excellent communication between the branch's 65-strong team of volunteers.

Overall, the report found the branch was well-managed and the inspectors had confidence in the branch's future.

Director David Longmore said: "The good report is credit to the
teamwork of everyone at the branch. We hope that volunteers find the work rewarding, and feel well trained to support callers by telephone, email and face-to-face.

"It is important that volunteers who give up their free time also have a sense of belonging to the wider Samaritan movement and enjoy being part of something unique.

"So far this year we have trained 14 new volunteers with ages ranging from 18 to mid-70s. We are always keen to recruit more, especially for night-time duties."

Anyone interested in volunteering should write to Samaritans, 13 Argyle Road, Bognor Regis PO21 1DY, call the national recruitment line 08705 62 72 82 or see www.samaritans.org
