A Southbourne headteacher is building relations with China to give her students and staff more knowledge of the Far East.
Margaret Eva, head of the Bourne Community College, travelled thousands of miles to visit schools in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjing, to arrange exchange trips for her students and staff for the future.
HSBC sponsors the college and other special
ist schools to build international partnerships. The aim is to also increase the contribution to education, training and research to aid the global economy.
Bourne Community College has also employed Vivian Qin, a Chinese assistant, who teaches Mandarin as an additional language. The students are now enjoying learning about the Chinese culture.
Working with the University of Chichester, the college hosts teachers from China who are interested in knowing how teachers work in England, and how they assess and measure students' learning.
Mrs Eva said: "These visits are mainly focused on leadership and Chinese headteachers are intrigued to see how the English education system operates and we, equally, are keen to learn from their success."
Cllr Peter Griffiths, county council cabinet member for education and schools, said: "The relationships these children forge with their Chinese counterparts could be the start of a lifelong friendship."
