A Lagness B&B owner has gone European.
Sandra Barnes-Keywood last month featured on the European Union's website as the UK's female entrepreneur of the week.

She was selected because of the benefit she has gained from a series of European social fund-backing training courses.

Sandr
a, who runs the Old Chapel Forge on Lower Bognor Road, said: "It's very exciting to be selected as one of just a few people from the whole of Europe to be featured so prominently by the EU.

"The south-east England tourism industry faces huge competition in the UK and globally.

"This strategic investment by the fund is clearly helping build capacity within smaller businesses and helping us further develop the quality and sustainability of our product."

The fund is devoted to promoting jobs by making workers and companies better equipped to face new, global challenges.

Sandra has benefited from the fund's training schemes for the past four years. Areas covered included green tourism, accessibility for visitors and online marketing.

Her recognition by the EU follows a series of ground-breaking national awards from English tourism bodies for her high standards, especially in sustainability.

Vladimir Spidia, the EU's commissioner for employment, social affairs and equal opportunities, praised Sandra's initiatives.

She had complemented her entrepreneurial skills with new knowledge and thinking from the courses to further develop her business.

"It is an example of how the fund can positively affect people's lives – both professionally and personally," he added.
